Pastry Sous Chef – Kitchen

Great food. Genuine hospitality. A place to grow.

At Rick Stein Restaurants, we’re passionate about fresh seafood, simple cooking done brilliantly, and delivering memorable dining experiences for every guest. Desserts play a vital part in that journey, and we’re now looking for a talented and motivated Pastry Sous Chef to support our pastry operation and help lead our kitchen team.

If you love baking, have exceptional attention to detail, and take pride in producing beautiful, consistent desserts, this could be the perfect next step in your career.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting the Head Chef and Sous Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen, with a focus on pastry
  • Preparing and producing high-quality desserts, pastries, and baked goods
  • Ensuring recipes and specifications are followed
  • Overseeing presentation so every dessert leaves the kitchen looking its best
  • Maintaining excellent food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness standards
  • Managing stock control in the pastry section, including ordering, labelling, rotation, and minimising waste
  • Training, coaching, and supporting junior members of the kitchen team
  • Helping to develop new dessert dishes, specials, and seasonal menu items
  • Leading the pastry section during service when required
  • Contributing to a calm, professional, and efficient kitchen environment

What we’re looking for

  • Previous experience in a pastry role within a professional kitchen (Sous Chef or strong Chef de Partie level)
  • A genuine passion for baking, desserts, and high-quality ingredients
  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in presentation
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure
  • A positive, can-do attitude and strong team ethic
  • Desire to learn, develop, and progress within the kitchen
  • Flexible approach to working hours and service demands
  • Reliability and a professional approach at all times

What you’ll get

  • Competitive pay and clear opportunities for progression
  • Free staff meals while on shift
  • Generous discounts across Rick Stein Restaurants, Rooms, and Shops
  • Ongoing training and development, including pastry skills and leadership support
  • A supportive and inclusive team culture
  • Extra holiday allowance for length of service – up to 5 additional days after 5 years
  • Access to discounts across hundreds of retailers covering health, entertainment, travel & more

If you’re passionate about pastry and ready to take the next step in your career with a respected restaurant group, apply now and join the kitchen team at Rick Stein Restaurants.

The Seafood Restaurant was the first restaurant opened by Rick Stein and Jill Stein in 1975. The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow is famous for establishing an international reputation for the very freshest fish and shellfish, often landed on our doorstep. In the centre of the restaurant is a Seafood Bar where guests can enjoy watching chefs assembling platters of oysters, langoustines and sashimi.
