Position Summary

The Newt in Somerset is a unique destination, encompassing a hotel, restaurants, gardens and interactive exhibitions, which combine to create a vibrant and thriving attraction. We are looking for an energetic Engineer who wishes to apply their skills to a variety of applications. Degree level education, Project management and practical experience are essential.

The Chief Engineer is responsible for planning, documenting, implementing, monitoring and reporting on a comprehensive programme of proactive, routine and preventative maintenance. The role covers a large and diverse estate of buildings and systems, including electrical and mechanical equipment, leisure facilities and vehicles. Responsibilities also include the upkeep of local IT and network infrastructure, telephony and CCTV monitoring software.

The Chief Engineer will be responsible for organising and overseeing reactive maintenance and leading an in-house estate maintenance team, as well as external contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

- The Chief Engineer will be responsible for organising and overseeing maintenance on a day to day basis leading an in-house estate team as well as external contractors.
- Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all buildings, building systems, equipment, plant, infrastructure, IT, vehicles and other facilities across the whole Estate.
- Managing and training a small but flexible Estate Maintenance Team, and recruiting additional resource as required.
- Initiating and implementing continuous improvement projects across all disciplines.
- Implementing and maintaining the quality control system.
- This will include working sometimes at weekends and bank holidays.

Skills and Experience

- An engineering degree with at least five years relevant experience.
- The candidate may come from a variety of related backgrounds including project management, site management, services engineering consultancy, facilities management, M&E contracting or Industrial engineering for example.
- Professional experience in the facilities management sector a benefit but not essential.
- Exposure to managing local IT, networks and database optimisation will be beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills across all disciplines
- Experience with appropriate dedicated FM software and BMS a benefit.
- Health and Safety/Site safety certifications (SMSTS/ SSSTS/NEBOSH) also a benefit.
- Full and clean UK driving license.
