Tax Accountant Responsibilities and Duties

Job Summary

A Tax Accountant will provide support and preparation on a variety of tax projects for clients. This position requires strong analytical and communication skills to coordinate with peers, managers, and clients to ensure timely, quality delivery of both simple and complex tax projects. Their duties include assuming a leadership role and communicating with company executives.

Essential duties and responsibilities

▪     Responsible for calculation of R&D tax credits

▪     Calculation and payment of Partner level quarterly estimated tax payments

▪     Maximize Empowerment, Enterprise, and Opportunity Zone tax credits filings, and opportunities

▪     Preparation of Federal & State tax returns for all entities

▪     Establish accounts for new tax jurisdictions

▪     Participate in tax planning strategies

▪     Establish accounts for new payroll tax jurisdictions

▪     Resolve payroll tax issues that arise with authorities and vendors

▪     Maximize WOTC or other Federal and State employment tax credit programs

▪     Prepare monthly sales & use tax returns for multiple jurisdictions and related journal entries

▪     Prepare annual tangible tax returns

▪     Assist in Federal or State audits

▪     Manage all tax-related software programs required

▪     Respond to information requests as needed

 

Qualification requirements

▪      Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, and/or related field.

▪      3+ years of relevant, applied experience in corporate income tax preparation (1120), public accounting, and/or a private company.

▪      Knowledge and experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in regards to accounting for income taxes.

▪      Knowledge of government and regulatory laws and regulations around tax and accounting.

▪      Ability to conduct tax law research, document, and communicate findings to management.

▪      Proficient with MS Office (Advanced Excel)

▪      Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills

▪      Effective verbal, listening, and written communication skills

▪      Effective organizational, stress, and time management skills

▪      Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines

▪      Ability to work independently or as a team member

Physical demands and abilities

▪      Regularly spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers

▪      Regularly spend long hours in intense concentration reviewing and entering financial information into a computer.

▪      Regularly use hands and fingers to handle, control or feel objects.

▪      Regularly see details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
