Position Summary

The Line Cook is responsible for preparing, producing, and executing high-quality menu items to support VERANDA’s daily culinary operations. This role plays a critical part in delivering fresh, flavorful, and visually appealing food that meets VERANDA’s elevated culinary standards.

The ideal candidate brings strong culinary fundamentals, excellent station discipline, attention to detail, and the ability to execute efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment. Success in this role requires consistency, teamwork, urgency, and a commitment to food quality and cleanliness.

Primary Responsibilities: Food Preparation & Execution

  • Prepare and cook menu items according to standardized recipes, production sheets, and presentation guidelines.
  • Execute assigned station responsibilities consistently, quickly, and with attention to detail.
  • Ensure all dishes are properly portioned, seasoned, and plated to specification.
  • Support preparation of hot line, cold prep, grab-and-go, and specialty stations as assigned.

Product Quality & Station Management

  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of assigned workstation at all times.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, labeling, and rotation of all food products.
  • Monitor product freshness and immediately report quality concerns to culinary leadership.
  • Maintain strong mise en place and station readiness throughout service.

Operational Excellence

  • Support efficient production flow during prep and service periods.
  • Assist with batch production and replenishment to maintain uninterrupted service.
  • Complete opening, mid-shift, and closing duties thoroughly and efficiently.
  • Contribute to minimizing waste and maximizing product utilization.

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, HACCP, and health department standards.
  • Maintain safe knife handling and proper equipment usage.
  • Adhere to all company policies and kitchen operating procedures.
  • Ensure work areas remain clean, sanitized, and audit-ready.

Teamwork & Culture

  • Collaborate effectively with chefs and fellow cooks to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and urgency in all duties.
  • Maintain a positive, respectful, and team-oriented attitude.
  • Support training and cross-functional kitchen operations as needed.

Qualifications & Experience Required

  • Minimum 2 years of culinary experience in a professional kitchen
  • Basic understanding of cooking techniques, knife skills, and kitchen fundamentals
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Food Handler Certification required upon employment

Preferred

  • Experience in corporate dining, upscale hospitality, hotel, or large-scale production kitchens
  • Experience preparing health-forward or wellness-focused menu offerings
  • Formal culinary training or apprenticeship preferred
