Reporting to our Senior Sous Chef, you’ll play an important role in delivering an exceptional guest experience through consistently high standards of food preparation and service.

Working closely with our Head Chef and Executive Chef, you’ll also cook, prepare and portion dishes, whilst setting a positive example for our wider team.

This full-time position offers a 40-hour workweek, with all the benefits of working for Watergate Bay Hotel.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Supporting the Executive Chef and Head Chef with the day-to-day organisation and running of the kitchen.
  • Preparing, cooking and presenting high-quality dishes to our hotel standards, taking pride in consistency, flavour and presentation.
  • Taking an active role in leading and supporting the kitchen team during service, helping to keep things organised and running smoothly.
  • Supporting and developing junior members of the team, sharing your knowledge and helping them build their skills and confidence.
  • Assisting with the preparation and organisation of the kitchen ahead of service, ensuring the team is ready to deliver a great service.
  • Monitoring the quality, consistency and presentation of dishes throughout service and supporting the team where needed.
  • Assisting with stock control, including stock rotation, organisation and replenishment.
  • Helping maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness across the kitchen.
  • Following kitchen procedures and daily checks, including temperature records and food safety processes.
  • Helping create a positive, safe and well-organised working environment for the whole kitchen team.
  • Step up and support the running of the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef or other senior chefs, providing an opportunity to develop your leadership skills.

You’ll also

  • Help to ensure a safe environment for both staff and guests and following company Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Follow preservation standards for the proper handling of all food products (stored at the correct temperature).
  • Promote our shared responsibility to look after our team and planet.

What you’ll be sharing with us

  •  Experience as a Chef de Partie, or someone ready to take the next step in their career.
  • NVQ Level 1 & 2 (or equivalent) as a minimum.
  • A Food Hygiene certification.
  • A genuine passion for food, with an interest in local and seasonal produce.
  • A team-focused and supportive approach, with the confidence to help and guide others.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards.
  • The ability to stay calm, organised and positive in a busy kitchen environment.
  • A proactive attitude, with a willingness to learn, develop and take on new responsibilities.
  • Flexibility with working hours and shift patterns.
  • Professional presentation and a genuine commitment to delivering a great experience for our guests.
