Description

The Facilities Assistant plays a vital role in maintaining the operational integrity, safety, and appearance of the restaurant, with a strong focus on kitchen facilities and equipment. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting repairs, supporting equipment upkeep, and ensuring the restaurant environment meets Zuma’s operational and safety standards.

Main Duties

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance of restaurant facilities, with particular focus on kitchen equipment and back-of-house operations
  • Troubleshoot and complete minor repairs on kitchen equipment, refrigeration units, smallwares, plumbing fixtures, lighting, doors, and general building systems
  • Coordinate and assist licensed vendors or contractors with electrical, plumbing, gas, HVAC, and specialized equipment servicing as required
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment (ovens, grills, refrigeration, dishwashers, etc.) is functioning safely and efficiently, escalating major repairs when necessary
  • Support installation and setup of new kitchen or restaurant equipment as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance storage areas, tools, and repair supplies
  • Respond promptly to urgent repair requests during service periods to minimize operational disruption
  • Conduct regular safety checks to ensure compliance with workplace health and safety regulations
  • Assist with minor carpentry, patchwork, painting, and aesthetic upkeep of guest and back-of-house areas
  • Move equipment or furniture as required for maintenance, deep cleaning, or operational needs
  • Maintain maintenance logs and report recurring issues to management for long-term resolution planning
  • Perform additional duties as required or requested

  • Previous experience in restaurant, hospitality, or commercial facilities maintenance
  • Working knowledge of kitchen equipment systems, refrigeration, plumbing, and general building maintenance
  • Ability to identify mechanical issues and determine appropriate repair solutions
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety standards and preventative maintenance practices
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and perform physically demanding tasks
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required
