The Opportunity
We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Manager & Sommelier to join our leadership team. This hybrid role is ideal for someone who thrives in both operational leadership and wine expertise, with a passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences. You will guide daily restaurant operations while curating and overseeing a high-caliber wine program—particularly with a strong focus on French wines. This is a unique opportunity to lead, inspire, and elevate the dining experience on multiple fronts.
Core Responsibilities
Hospitality Leadership
Lead daily operations with a service-first mindset that embodies Vandelay’s high standards of American hospitality
Assist with hiring, training, coaching, and development of team members to build a culture of excellence and enthusiasm
Conduct pre-shift meetings, communicate key updates, and maintain a high-energy, solutions-focused team culture
Review reservations, manage floor plans, and coordinate special occasions to ensure every detail is flawlessly executed
Address guest feedback with empathy and professionalism, turning challenges into opportunities
Wine Program Management
Curate and maintain a wine list with an emphasis on French wines (Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Loire, Rhône, Alsace) while incorporating seasonal selections and guest preferences
Manage inventory, purchasing, and storage for quality and consistency across all locations
Monitor wine program profitability through strategic pricing and sales tracking
Guest Engagement & Education
Elevate the guest experience through personalized wine service, tableside education, and memorable pairings
Host wine tastings, pairing events, and internal trainings to foster appreciation and knowledge
Train front-of-house staff on wine regions, varietals, service techniques, and upselling strategies
Compliance & Standards
Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and alcohol regulations
Maintain cleanliness and organization in wine storage and service areas
Submit reports and documentation in a timely, accurate manner
Requirements
2+ years of full-service restaurant management experience preferred
3+ years of full-service restaurant management experience preferred
Certification from a recognized sommelier program (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET Level 2+) preferred
Deep knowledge of French wines; knowledge of global wine regions is a plus
Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
