About the Opportunity
A Host / Maitre D’ Assistant at Tei-An plays an essential role in shaping each guest’s experience from the moment they arrive. This role is responsible for delivering a warm, polished welcome while thoughtfully managing the flow of the dining room to support seamless service and an elevated guest experience.
The ideal candidate is hospitality-driven, highly organized, and passionate about food, beverage, and guest experience. Experience in Japanese restaurants is not required, though fine dining experience and a strong understanding of the sequence of service are highly valued.
This role requires professionalism, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a genuine desire to continuously learn and grow within hospitality.
Core Responsibilities
Provide warm, gracious, and attentive hospitality to every guest from arrival through departure
Manage reservations, walk-ins, and dining room pacing with professionalism and attention to detail
Strategize seating flow while balancing guest experience and operational needs
Answer phones with professionalism, warmth, and strong product knowledge
Communicate clearly with managers and front-of-house team members to support seamless service
Maintain reservation notes, guest preferences, and special accommodations with accuracy and discretion
Assist with guest recovery and help resolve concerns with professionalism and composure
Demonstrate strong knowledge of menu offerings, restaurant layout, and service standards
Maintain organization and cleanliness of the host stand and entry areas throughout service
Support the leadership team with opening, mid-shift, and closing responsibilities
Requirements
Must be at least 18 years old.
Fine dining experience preferred
Minimum 3 months of hospitality experience preferred
Strong understanding of the sequence of service
Passion for hospitality, food, and beverage
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain composed and professional in a fast-paced environment
Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to continuously learn and improve
Bilingual in English and Japanese is a plus
Certification for food handling as required by state and local regulations
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
Ability to work standing and walking for extended periods of time
