Position Summary
The Assistant Captain plays a key supporting role in daily store operations while upholding maman’s standards of service, quality, and hospitality. Working closely with the Captain, General Manager, Regional Director and People Team, the Assistant Captain helps lead the team in store, maintaining operational excellence, and ensuring an exceptional guest experience while working one of the FOH positions (counter, server/runner, barista). The majority of your time will be spent on the floor, with about 10 percent of time spent on administrative duties.
Essential ResponsibilitiesSupervise day-to-day operations while reporting to the General manager, effectively communicating team and cafe needs.
Support leadership in ensuring all FOH team members are properly trained and on developmental track.
Complete administrative duties including inventory management, monitor labor costs & COGS, scheduling and managing staff breaks.
Oversee adherence to company policies, including uniform standards and staff meal guidelines.
Maintain service standards, including speed of service, hospitality, and upselling.
Ensure all food and beverage items are consistently prepared and served according to recipes, portioning, and plating standards.
Order beverage-related supplies ensuring adequate stock levels and assisting with commissary orders.
Monitor product dates and ensure FIFO procedures are followed to minimize waste and prevent over-ordering.
Communicate updates, news, and drink specials to both the store team and guests.
Full understanding of menu items and allergens.
Oversee quality control for all food and beverage items.
Build strong relationships with regular guests through warm, attentive, and personalized hospitality.
Investigate and resolve any guest concerns.
Ensure the proper operation of third-party delivery platforms.
Assist with weekly and monthly inventory counts.
Perform additional tasks and ad hoc projects as assigned to support daily operations.
Ensure full compliance with State Health Department rules and regulations.
Obtain a Health Department Food Protection Certificate within one month of starting the role.
Take ownership of the cafe space, ensuring all brand updates are executed in a timely manner ie. printing & framing signage & tags, updating menus and maintaining aesthetics.
Maintain the overall cleanliness of the store and visual merchandising of retail products
including reporting and assisting with repairs and maintenance needs.
Minimum 1 year previous leadership experience.
Knowledge of POS systems & Third Party delivery systems -Toast & Harri preferred.
Understand when to troubleshoot issues on your own and when to escalate to upper management.
Strong time management and multitasking skills.
Work a flexible schedule that will include early mornings, weekends, holidays, special events, and or occasional emergencies as needed.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs.
Preferred:
Previous administrative experience and familiarity with Google Suite.
Food Handler’s Certification or ServSafe Certification.
Keeping up with the latest industry trends.
